Stream and Archive Help

If you are having any issues listening to or connecting to our stream then this is the page for you.

We strongly urge our users to listen to our stream and archive using the VLC media player.  You can obtain VLC by clicking here.  VLC is a free open-source media player that supports virtually all media formats.  If all else fails, use VLC.  If you want to save yourself a lot of hassle, use VLC.

Below are some answers to questions or problems you may be experiancing.

You don't hear anything when you connect.

Since our stream only contains scanner activity there is not always something being said.  The result is you may connect and not hear anything for a while.  If your media player indicates it is playing then you are connected and nothing is wrong.  Please be patient.  Most of the time there is activity at least every 5-10 minutes.  However, sometimes (although rarely) it could go over half an hour without anything being said.  Also make sure your volume is not turned way down or muted.  Typically if you are connected and you turn your volume all the way up you will hear a humming noise from our stream.  This is actually a good way to test if you are connected (don't try this with head phones please).

When you try to connect to our stream your media player asks for a user name and password.

This is caused by an invalid token.  Every time you view the "Listen Live" page you are given a token to connect.  This token can only be used by you.  Therefor if someone else linked you to our stream, you will not be able to connect.

Also, the token is only valid for the IP address in which it was generated for.  Thus, eventually your IP address will probably change and you will need to get a new token.

The simple answer to this question is: Go to the "Listen Live" page and obtain a new token by clicking the link to listen now.

If however you still experiance this after obtaining a new token yourself, you are probably using a different IP for your web viewing and your other general internet activity.  This is usually the case when you use a proxy to connect to the WWW through your web browser.  You must turn off your proxy or you will not be able to connect.

You hear a lot of background and/or static noise.

If the signal is weak at our scanner there will be static.  However, you can help yourself out by turning down your.  Turning down the volume will make it so you can't hear most of the background noise, but you should still be ablet to hear people talking clearing.

The sound is horrible.  You never can understand anything that is said.

We have found that (mostly in laptops) some speakers play our stream and archive files terribly.  Try using different speakers and see if that helps.  You can also try headphones.

Warning: Using headphones can be dangerous due to varying levels of loudness in our stream.  Use caution and keep the volume turned down to the lowest confortable setting.

Audio Tip
Our stream and archive will sound much better when you turn down the volume.  Keep the volume at a comfortable, minimal, level to increase the clarity of what you hear.
